Taking the CELTA has been the best thing I have done for my professional development as an ELT. The content is top quality, the methodology is proven and the support the trainers offer is invaluable. The course is fast paced but doable. To gain the most benefit, make the course a priority and be open to learning and taking on feedback. It will be worth all the effort!
CELTA is really the greatest experience for your professional development. You have the opportunity to learn from highly experienced CELTA tutors who show you how to improve teaching in a meaningful way. It is totally worth it!. Go for it 🙂
Personally, I think completing the Blended CELTA course has been one of the most lifetime’s indelible experiences. It was a well-structured, continuous assessment course which combined face-to-face and online teacher training. It included engaging input sessions, classroom and live class observations, trainees’ teaching practices, video-recorded observations of experienced teachers, written assignments, tutors’ feedback and assessment, peer and self-assessment. Its aim was to implement the principles of effective teaching in the context of adult education. Specifically, what makes it an unforgettable experience is that you use a wide range of practical skills, and student-centred activities to facilitate learning in an effective, meaningful, and motivating way.
What utterly captivated my attention throughout this course were the input sessions provided by my knowledgeable tutors Olga Sakidon and Wouter Redelinghuys. I would like to express my profound gratitude to them because they were always patient, dedicated and supportive. They became my role models due to their use of skillful strategies during each in-person and virtual meeting. They always adapted TEFL fundamentals to student-centred engaging frameworks. Moreover, they monitored and assessed my teaching practices, elucidated key action points, gave me a lot of constructive feedback and made me more reflective upon my own teaching practices. I am always grateful to both of them for their invaluable experience which inspired me to evaluate my teaching performance and improve it too. Also, I am thankful to Daniel Miller, the Director of International House Guayaquil. He is an emphatic, polite and very cooperative person who sent me the online application form and interviewed me in order to be accepted to the course.
The best life experiences of this course will always be engraved on my mind due to its convivial atmosphere. Enthusiasm, collaboration and professional commitment of my tutors Olga and Wouter and also of my peers Viviana, Jimmy, Patricia and Jessica made this course unique. As members of a small group of CELTA trainees we were always together giving each other a hand, sharing effective planning ideas and strategies for maximizing online students’ learning time. As educators, my tutors, peers and I, are united by a social mission, full of inspiration coming from the use of innovative teaching methods and strategies. Even though I will miss my tutors and peers, I known they are all working as I am, giving our best effort, doing what we love that is English teaching. I’m glad I took this intensive and collaborative course due to all the benefits I got from it. Now I am looking forward to keep up to date on the trends, skills and technologies related to my professional development.
I would recommend taking the CELTA here because the trainers are wonderful. Everything I was learning was completely new to me but they were very patient and helpful. They are also very detailed in their feedback so as long as you’re a good listener you’ll do well. The standards for the online version are still very high but that’s great because that makes the course worth it.
I am
Mónica, and I am an experienced English teacher. I have taught learners of
different ages and levels including at primary, secondary and higher
education. I can certainly say that the CELTA course helped me to
continue my professional development. The course provided an extensive overview
of TEFL, for example, we learned how to teach language by clarifying meaning,
pronunciation and form which I found very interesting and effective. We also
practiced a diverse mix of approaches which focused on engaging and motivating
students to learn and use English,
Taking Celta Course has been a great opportunity for me to
update my teaching.
The CELTA course has been a great experience! It has contributed to my professional development enormously, I’ve been teaching for over 13 years, and the course has offered the opportunity to relearn methodologies and solid strategies to sharpen and improve my teaching and get more confident. Tutors always support you and the observation teaching practice makes you carefully plan every step of the class, thus, your self-awareness increases and you can focus more on your students’ necessities.
I thoroughly enjoyed studying for the CELTA with IH Guayaquil. The course was very well-organised, and the tutors were professional, helpful and supportive. I would recommend it to anyone, whatever your level of teaching experience.
Prior to taking the CELTA I had very little teaching experience but throughout the course I learned so much including how to successfully plan and structure a lesson. I now feel more confident in my teaching abilities. The tutors were excellent and provided useful feedback before and after a lesson. This helped my peers and I continuously improve throughout the 6 week course. Despite being an online format, tutors were always available whenever questions or problems arose.
I have just finished my CELTA with IH Guayaquil and was nervously hoping to pass. The experience was a rollercoaster of emotions from assignments to lesson planning to teaching practice. But with the help and guidance of our tutors, Daniel and Wouter, the whole experience was worthwhile. Their knowledge and experience not only made the ride smoother but also contributed to me passing with an A. If you’re looking for CELTA, I definitely recommend International House Guayaquil. Taking the CELTA was a great decision. It gave me the opportunity to gain valuable insights into planning, classroom management, teaching preparation, methodologies, and much more.
I felt really supported during the course. We had access to books, videos, and lots of interesting materials. Also, our tutors were great! I felt their constructive feedback really benefited our teaching practice.
The CELTA course is certainly demanding. It requires time and dedication. But, if you decide to go through with it, you won’t regret it! It is definitely worth it. It was one of the best learning experiences I’ve had.
I always say I was “born to teach”. However, for some reason I chose to focus my undergraduate and postgraduate majors on the Business field.
I had always wanted to evolve my empirical teaching skills, so I took the CELTA course, and it has been quite an experience: challenging myself to re-learn what it takes for teaching English as a Second Language has been both enlightening and useful for my professional growth.
If you currently are an ESL teacher with lots of experience, very little teaching academic background and eager to take your career to the next level, this course is for you, hands down!
The CELTA course provided by International House Guayaquil was an incredible experience for me. Before the course, I had never taught a class in my life, but the tutors helped me along the way, and they dedicated time and effort to help me reach a Cambridge-teaching-standard. Throughout the CELTA, you get to work with students from different nationalities with different levels, so you really get a real-life experience of what it’s like to teach English outside of CELTA. For me, the best thing about the course was that, despite having to do it online due to COVID regulations, I never felt distant from my tutors or from my peers. We all became close with each other and we all helped each other through this amazing, 8-week-long, learning experience. The course really puts you up to speed with all the skills and proven methodologies that guarantee you can teach anywhere in the world
Taking the CELTA course is a worthwhile experience. First and foremost, you should be aware that it is a demanding and challenging course, which requires time and discipline to fulfil the tasks and meet the deadlines. I took the CELTA course through August and I can sincerely say it was the best experience of my teaching career so far. It was a challenging, enriching and eye-opening course that came with a set of tools that I started incorporating to my classroom immediately. The CELTA course took up 90% of my life for 9 weeks and I can honestly say I have never learned so much in such a “short” amount of time. The information provided from the get go, the resources shared (books, videos, platform) and the continuous help of the tutors assisted me throughout the process and allowed me to enhance my teaching in ways I couldn´t have imagined.
If you are thinking of taking the course, DO IT! I can assure you, it will be a giant step in the right direction for your teaching career. It´s hard work that definitely pays off.
Taking the CELTA at IH Guayaquil has been a highly rewarding experience as a teacher. In my opinion, the course was very well organized and the tutors were well prepared and always available to support students whenever necessary. Moreover, the first section devoted to give us a general overview of the course was concise and clear which helped us to be prepared for what was coming ahead. A piece of advice for others, the course is challenging, so you may feel overwhelmed during the first weeks, which does not mean you have to quit, on the contrary, you have to work harder and focus on your goal. Personally, I think that I’ve learned a lot and I’m now a better prepared teacher. Olga and Wouter were amazing trainers. All in all, I definitely recommend this certification for those who want to become better teachers and boost their careers.
CELTA is not a difficult course but it’s highly demanding. If you want to PASS the CELTA without a doubt you have to put in great effort. For me, the CELTA was an amazing experience and it took me back to my college years when I had to stay up late studying in order to meet my deadlines. Sometimes it would get overwhelming, but when you finally deliver, the feeling is very rewarding.
CELTA is a course that fosters life-long teaching practices and self-awareness about the language. It expands the horizons of what teaching and learning is. After CELTA, I reflect more in depth about my teaching practice and how to improve it with all the techniques and knowledge I acquired in the course. I think that what you learn at CELTA never expires. Go for it!
